KARACHI: More than a dozen members of Sindh Assembly have become cautious and avoid receiving unwanted phone calls. They have even removed their contact numbers and residential addresses from the Sindh Assembly’s official website. It has created a problem for the residents of the constituencies to contact their elected representatives for the problems they face.

Sources say that the members had requested the Assembly secretariat to remove their contact numbers from the website after receiving dubious phone calls. Officials in the Assembly Secretariat said many members didn’t provide information relating to their date of birth and academic qualifications while 30 members out of 166 did not even submit their credentials and personal information.

The academic qualifications of only 128 members of the Sindh Assembly are available on the website while only 85 members have their age listed. The website also contains information about the profession and businesses of more than 74 members.

The details of members of the assembly elected on minority seats or those reserved for women are also not provided which is a concern for the voters.

The information required to be placed on the official website of Sindh Assembly should include the name of parents, marital status, details of children, permanent and temporary addresses, contact number, academic qualifications, place of birth, profession, foreign visits and previous job title. However, many members of assembly have provided only limited information and have avoided to mention most of them.
