Prompt action by Rescue 1122 saves people’s lives

DEO says 66 people died on the spot in different accidents

Rescue 1122 officials saved 75 lives on an average, each day during the month of November in Rahim Yar Khan.

At least 49,323 calls were received by the rescue service. Of them 2,235 were emergency calls while 1,838 were related to the patient transfer service. In addition, 481 patients were given first aid on the site, while 66 people were pronounced dead on the spot.

These statistics were revealed by District Emergency Officer Dr Abdul Sattar Babar during a media briefing in Rahim Yar Khan.

He said that rescue services timely attended and responded to 2,235 emergency calls comprising of 618 road accident complaints, 1,301 medical calls, 24 fire incidents and 37 crime incidents. He maintained that one call was received related to a drowning incident and 254 complaints were of a miscellaneous nature.

Babar pointed out that 618 road crashes were caused because of over speeding and negligent driving while 66 people were killed on the spot.

He highlighted that 673 motorcycles, 55 cars, 58 rickshaws and eight other vehicles were involved in the road crashes.

He disclosed that one incident related to a fire emergency was reported while rescue services remained active and saved lives by timely response.

The district emergency official said in 618 medical emergencies at least 749 people were injured. Of them, 621 men and 128 women were shifted to hospitals after being given first aid.

In addition, he elaborated that the Rescue 1122 patient transfer service also shifted 1,838 patients to various medical facilities and hospitals.

Briefing about important activities last month, Abdul Sattar Babar said that basic life support and fire safety courses were organised at several industrial institutions and government offices. “Emergency evacuations were held to combat emergency situations,” he added. He said that new teams were formulated after CADRE courses at a union council level.

The DEO said that a seven-member team from the service attended the annual National Disaster Handling contest at the Emergency Services Academy in Lahore. An international day in the memory of road traffic victims was also held, he mentioned.

He said that the district administration conferred the district team with awards for winning the championship at the 7th National Rescue Challenge.
