Boost for province as it hosts major squash event

CM Kamal hails sports competition ‘as a milestone’

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan has said holding of sports events and regional conference was playing significant role in development of the province.

He expressed these views while addressing the prize distribution ceremony of International Squash League Final in Quetta on Thursday.

“The successful holding of squash league was an important milestone,” Kamal said adding this event has opened doors for various sports activities and international players in Pakistan.

The chief minister said with huge sacrifices of security forces and spirited determination of people, the province has been able to eliminate the scourge of terrorism. He added their incessant cooperation has turned Balochistan into a peaceful province where high-profile activities such as international sports and Asian Parliamentary Assembly conference having taken place.

Kamal opined that besides development needs of the province, healthy sports activities are also vital. “Youth would be provided superlative development opportunities through sports,” he said.

The CM said this event (international squash league) had enabled youngsters to learn more. These competitions let players calibrate their skills and capabilities.

Kamal urged authorities to take effective measures for promotion of sports activities in the province.
It was announced that for promotion of sports in the province a modern glass court would be built.

He congratulated the event organisers on holding successful squash league and thanked law enforcement agencies for their support.

Earlier, the CM distributed prizes among successful players. The winner of the league was Leo Ao of Hong Kong, while Nafizwan Adnan of Malaysia was the runner-up. Players belonging to England, Mexico and other countries also participated in the league.

Meanwhile, in a meeting with Benzair Income Support Programme (BISP) Director General of Human Resource Muhammad Khaliq Sadiq, the chief minister lauded the initiatives taken by BISP for eradicating poverty from the province.

During the meeting, the DG briefed about the programmes going on in the country. He said that job and educational programmes were included in the BISP plan while the government has been launching a health programme in collaboration with BISP aiming to provide free medical assistance to poor people from across the country.

Sadiq informed BISP was in need of human resource in Balochistan therefore, government officers have been providing their assistance in the programmes on deputation periods.

The chief minister assured that the provincial government would provide manpower and all assistance it required.

“The BISP must be expanded on district level across Balochistan because poverty ratio in remote parts of the province is still on high level,” Kamal said calling the initiative imperative to end poverty.
