Let the commission do its job

Letter June 06, 2011
Can the prime minister and his government leave the Commission alone for the next 25 days.

ISLAMABAD: The level of intrigues and attacks on the work of the 18th Amendment Implementation Commission is quite amazing. Can the prime minister and his government leave the Commission, under the leadership of Raza Rabbani, alone for the next 25 days to finish their work. The people of the provinces have repeatedly communicated to the federal government that devolution of power is of high priority for them. I see the appointment of Waseem Sajjad without the chairperson of the commission, Raza Rabbani, being consulted as another effort by the PML-Q and the prime minister to undermine this historic constitutional reform process.

People in all provinces, especially Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have worked for decades to get the provincial autonomy that had been promised since 1973. Now that they are on the verge of achieving this goal, the shadow has grown large once again. It is our humble request to the PPP to let Senator Raza Rabbani complete his work and let Pakistan see a new dawn.
