The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has completed final preparations for the October 14 by-polls. Elections will be held on 35 national and provincial assembly seats.

Around 9.5 million ballot papers have been printed for approximately 9.3 million voters who will cast their vote for 11 National Assembly and 24 provincial constituencies. More than 400 candidates are contesting the October 14 polls.

The ECP has set up more than 7,000 polling stations across Pakistan, of which more than 1,500 polling stations have been declared sensitive.

According to sources, 40,000 army personnel will be performing duties at polling stations and local police forces will deploy around 100,000 personnel to perform security duties.

Four of the 11 Lower House seats on which polls are being held were vacated by Prime Minister Imran Khan, who chose to retain his hometown seat of Mianwali.

Another two seats on which by-elections are being held were vacated by former chief minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, while Speaker National Assembly Pervez Elahi has also vacated two seats.

Elections on eight national and provincial assembly seats had been postponed for a variety of reasons in the general elections held on July 25, and by-elections are being held in these constituencies as well.
