Former Pakistan fast bowler Aaqib Javed has sent out a stern warning to the cricketing world by stating that someday Test cricket will come to an end bearing in mind the paucity of interest in the game’s longest version from the fans.

“Nobody watches the matches except for the players participating in the match and the support staff,” said Javed. “One day Test cricket will come to an end considering the ongoing situation.”

He added that the International Cricket Council (ICC) must take steps to save Test cricket.

“It is about time that ICC takes some serious steps regarding the future of Test cricket,” he said. “Broadcasters are also not interested in covering five-day cricket.”

Citing the ongoing Test match between Pakistan and Australia as an instance, Javed said that it is clearly evident that fans are no longer interested in watching boring Test matches.

“The players won’t enjoy playing if there is no crowd to back them,” he said. “People are no longer interested in watching boring Test matches as they are keen on watching matches which last for a smaller duration and are more entertaining.”
