At least three policemen were suspended while a show cause notice was issued to Gulberg Town SHO for negligence in performing duties. The action was initiated by Regional Police Officer (RPO) Ghulam Mehmood Dogar during a surprise visit to the police station on Monday.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Shahzad Ashraf told Express News that the RPO visited the police station and inspected the record of cases registered during the month of September. He said the RPO found out that only 84 cases were registered, while 42 were under investigation.
He added that in 2018, at least 721 cases were lodged at the police station and of them only 97 cases were being investigated.
Similarly, he maintained that 113 cases of heinous nature were also reported at Gulberg Town police station, but only 87 were under investigation. Besides, none of such cases were registered during September at the police station.
The record revealed that 292 criminals, involved in different cases, including robberies, snatching and murder etc, were still at large. In addition, the ASI said that nine outlaws in category A and 408 culprits in category B could not be apprehended by Gulberg police.
He pointed out that the officials of the police station concerned also failed to lodge cases on a number of emergency calls. He mentioned that 14 applications of different cases were submitted at the front desk of the police station. However, they were pending as action could not be taken on them.
Meanwhile, the RPO also witnessed that police officials were rude towards citizens and negligent when performing duties. He also took notice of the fact that many officials were found absent during duty hours.
While taking action over the matter, the RPO Ghulam Mehmood issued suspension orders of three policemen identified as Gulberg Police Station Mohrar Waqas Akhtar, Muhammad Abbas Shah and Naveed Ahmed.
In addition, the RPO issued a show cause notice to Gulberg SHO Qamar Sajid for misconduct and negligence.
