LAHORE: Punjab Food Authority (PFA) disposed of 700,000 eggs under the supervision of PFA Director General (retd) Muhammad Usman at a solid waste dumping site in Lakhodair on Sunday.

The director general said that the eggs were brought to the site after they were confiscated from Burewala and Chichawatni during different raids.

The eggs were collected from various hatcheries and cold storages. They were going to be sold at cheap rates to different biscuit manufacturers and bakeries, he added.

He added that the purpose of discarding the eggs at the dumping site is to conserve the environment and to make the process more eco-friendly; PFA is carefully following environmental protection principles, he stated.

Food safety teams and the authority’s vigilance cell are dedicated to catching food adulterators and taking strict action against them. I personally monitor the activities of operational teams against food business operators, he said.

The director general said that the key objective and the mission of the authority are to ensure the provision of quality food in Punjab.

Meanwhile, recently in a separate raid PFA seized 20,000 litres of tainted milk in Pakpattan. The operation was led by the director general. The provincial food regulatory authority, in collaboration with local police, also arrested the owner of the factory identified as Mazhar Iqbal and has registered a case against him.

The director general said that the raid was conducted after the vigilance cell received a tip-off. The milk was being produced by contaminating it with powder, cooking oil, chemicals and washing powder. Such milk is injurious to health especially that of young children, he added.
