ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has increased wellhead gas prices of 23 fields with effect from July 1, 2018, said a notification.

Following the price revision, gas utilities including Sui Southern Gas Company and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines will file requests for increase in consumer tariff, which will come into effect on December 31, 2018, officials said.

According to the notification, the highest 35% increase has been made in the wellhead price of Mari field from Rs141.15 per million British thermal units (mmbtu) to Rs189.16 per mmbtu. This has been attributed to the revision in the Petroleum Policy 2012 in an attempt to encourage gas production.

Similarly, the wellhead price for Loti gas field has been increased by 11%. The price will now go up from Rs152.99 per mmbtu to Rs168.28.
