PTI leader claims former defence minister concealed assets

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's Usman Dar on Saturday challenged Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Khawaja Asif's election victory from Sialkot.

Asif's  Sialkot NA-73 win was challenged at the Lahore appellate tribunal on the last day of submitting appeals against those who emerged victorious in the recently-concluded general elections.



According to Dar's counsel Kazim Malik Asif submitted an unattested affidavit along with his nomination papers. Dar claimed Asif had concealed assets in the documents.

According to the petitioner, ECP staff failed to execute the Election Act 2017 and ballot boxes from 53 polling stations submitted the next day. The petitioner requested Asif's win to be annulled.

Today (Saturday) is the last date for submission of election-related petitions before election tribunals against the results of  the 2018 general elections. According to the Elections Act 2017, a time period of one hundred and twenty days has been fixed to conclude the proceedings on election-related disputes.



Election tribunals comprise of high court judges.Election-related petitions need to be submitted with pertinent tribunals across every province. Any petition sent to the commission secretariat in Islamabad will not be entertained.
