ISLAMABAD: Stone crushing business has been stopped in Margalla Hills, officials of the Environment Protection Ageny (EPA), Ministry of Climate Change said on Tuesday.

The crushing plants in Margalla Hills were permanently closed in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and at Sanjrani area. EPA also sealed one such plant in July 2018, said the officials.

They said that there were no stone crushing plants in any residential areas of ICT at present. However, they said that one asphalt plant has been installed by CDA near Islamic International University Islamabad (IIUI), therefore, Capital Development Authority (CDA) may be asked about it's operation.

The officials said that the approval for the design and construction of flats or any building in Islamabad are given by CAD, while EPA only deals with the environmental impact assessment projects.

They said that EPA gives approval after environmental impact assessment. The officials further said that one project of residential apartments in Sector F-10 Islamabad has been stopped after issuance of Environmental Protection Order (EPO) by EPA due to violation of Pakistan Environmental Protection Act (PEPA) 1977.
