PESHAWAR: Mahira Khan has recently been visiting Afghan refugee camps across the country. The starlet is currently in Peshawar with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Chief, Filippo Grandi, who is in Pakistan for a three-day visit along with UN Humanitarian Chief Mark Lowcock.

Speaking to the media Mahira Khan said that she is very happy to visited Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the first time and met with Afghan refugees. She added that vast number of children they have seen in the refugee’s camps and she personally wanted to help them and educate them for their bright future.

Speaking at a UNHCR event, the actor said, “My work with the UNHCR has just begun.”

“If this imperative issue is being highlighted better, if people are being much more aware if I’m present, then I’d love to contribute,” the Raees actor said.

She added, “More than half of the refugees are children. This is a huge thing because children are our future.”

“If we come together and try to collectively try to help the situation, however, and whatever little way we can, we are only making the future of this world better.” Mahira concluded by saying, “I’m very honoured to be a part of this cause.”

Grandi shared that they are very thankful of Pakistan to host the huge number of refugees since long time.

He said that Afghan refugees need more help and facilities in the field of education, health and other sectors. He said that Afghan refugees repatriation is continue and other countries should give more focus to resolve their issues.

Grandi said that security situation in Afghanistan is not stable while it very difficult for the refugees to repatriate to their country and arrange requirement for living. He informed that around 4 million Afghan refugees had repatriated so far to their home country, while Pakistan also wants voluntarily repatriation of these refugees.

He said that new prime minister of Pakistan Imran Khan also has taken interest in Afghan refugee’s issues and they try to help them and resolve their issues.
