Rehab centres to treat Sargodha’s drug addicts

Campaigns will be initiated to create awareness among masses

SARGODHA: The city district government has decided to establish rehabilitation centres in the tehsil headquarter hospital for the treatment of drug addicts.

In addition, such centres will also be set up in all seven tehsil headquarter hospitals across Sargodha under a public-private partnership.

A decision in this regard was taken by Sargodha Deputy Commissioner Muzaffar Sial on Wednesday. Sources told Express News that the initiative was taken, keeping in view the increasing number of drug addicts and lack of rehabilitation centres at the government level in the district.

They said that earlier, a rehabilitation centre for drug addicts was set up at the Civil Hospital under a public-private partnership that yielded positive results.

While considering the impact and benefits of the centre, Muzaffar Sial decided to establish such rehabilitation centres in seven tehsils of the district.

The DC ordered the assistant commissioners of all zones to set up wards and register people suffering from drug addiction. He stressed on all stakeholders to play their due role in the rehabilitation process.

Meanwhile, Sargodha Additional Deputy Commissioner Shafqatullah Mushtaq paid a visit to the rehabilitation centre at DHQ Hospital.

He ordered the officials’ concerned to utilise all resources for the treatment of such patients.He also issued instructions to initiate campaigns in a bid to create awareness regarding the menace of drug addiction among the people.

Besides, he added, awareness against narcotics would be spread in educational institutions and among citizens through different programmes. Mushtaq maintained that it was necessary to make drug addicts useful citizens of the society.

He directed the officials and to carry out planning to make the initiative a success.
