LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s (PMLN) nominated Opposition Leader Hamza Shehbaz Sharif said that if the opposition had fielded a joint candidate for presidential slot, it would have been beneficial for parliamentary democracy but “we are at a loss to understand the helplessness of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).”
He reiterated the charge that the general elections were rigged, saying the PML-N is not the only party complaining about it. He added that Federal Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui was also speaking on the alleged rigging.
Hamza Shehbaz said that Prime Minister Imran Khan asked for three months to judge his performance but has no agenda. He added that the people are facing 14 hours of load shedding but no one is here to steer them out of such situation.
With regards to the issuance of his notification as opposition leader by Punjab Assembly Speaker Pervez Elahi, Hamza said that he told the Speaker they had faced detention in jails during the era of dictatorship and should not be forced for any step. He added that he does not care for the issuance of his notification but regrets the emergence of signature mismatch of his MPAs.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media outside the Punjab Assembly, Acting Punjab Governor Chaudhry Pervez Elahi on Tuesday said that when a person puts different signatures from their identity cards then it would take time to issue the notification.
In response to another question, he said that Shehbaz Sharif has destroyed Punjab, nobody else has done so much damage which he has done to every system of the province, peoples’ rights have been snatched, hospitals and schools of the poor have been destroyed and now improvement has to be brought in ever sector and effective and result-oriented measures be taken.
With regards to the new local bodies system, he said that the local government minister can say something better in this regard, PML-N had also destroyed this system.
