Who is responsible?

KARACHI: Loss of lives or disabilities caused due to negligence by public-sector entities is not new to Pakistanis. Wapda, Lesco, K-Electric and several others have at some point contributed to the misery of citizens one way or the other.

In a recent incident, a young boy lost both his arms after a high- tension electric wire fell on him and caused severe burn injury. The question that arises is: who is to be held responsible for such negligence — K-Electric or the city government which failed to keep check on such issues?

Yet a monetary compensation, that in no way is a substitute for the loss, is likely to be offered to the family of the boy, as that’s how one is silenced when they are being wronged here.

What also needs to be done to be very careful about high-tension wires to eliminate the possibility of their snapping.
