Four shot dead in Islamabad for not 'washing dishes'

They were all addicts who fought over cleaning and washing a few mugs, says police

ISLAMABAD: Four men were killed on the outskirts of the capital earlier in July for not washing dishes, said police.

The incident, which occurred within the jurisdiction of Koral police station, was initially suspected to be a row among rival groups over a land dispute.

On July 12, police found two bodies lying in a room constructed on land developed near village Benigal. Two more bodies were discovered outside the room lying nearby.

Initially, officials suspected a land dispute triggered the incident as all four victims were employed by a local landowner and the victims were employed to guard the property.

However, upon discovering that a total of seven men lived in the two rooms, police tracked down the other three who had fled and their arrest revealed that a spat over who would wash dishes had resulted in the shootout among the group.

“There were two groups of men who lived in two rooms. Three Punjabi-speaking men lived in one while four Pashto-speaking men lived in the other room upstairs. On the morning of July 12, they fought over washing teacups and at the end of the dispute four of them were dead,” a police officer told The Express Tribune.



Police officials added that three of the individuals were armed while the others were unarmed. In the ensuing dispute, one of the armed men opened fire which led to retaliatory firing from the two other men.

 

“They were all addicts who fought over cleaning and washing a few mugs. We have completed the investigation and submitted a report to the court for trial,” added another officer.
