Minister takes notice, Darul Aman staff suspended

DERA GHAZI KHAN: Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari has taken strict notice of the incident in which a teenage girl was subjected to torture by the staff of a Darul Aman in public two weeks ago in Dera Ghazi Khan.

On minister's instructions, the deputy commissioner toured the Darul Aman and suspended all the staff. The statements of women residing at the facility were recorded. The minister directed  officials to depute female staff at all shelter homes all over the province.

The minister directed deputy commissioner DG Khan to submit a complete investigation report as soon as possible. She also directed him to improve security and safety matters of the Darul Aman.

On August 15, at a police picket, the girl was asked for some legal documents which she didn't possess. Later, she was arrested and was sent to Model Town B police station. The same day, the police presented her before the area magistrate after which the court sent her to Darul Aman.

Three suspects involved in the kidnapping of the girl are on a remand and will be brought to Lahore on Monday (today). The deputy commissioner has formed a team to investigate the matters of the Darul Aman.
