Accident on Indus Highway claims two lives, leaves 18 others injured

HYDERABABD: Two persons were killed and 18 others injured in an accident on the Indus Highway in Jamshoro district on Monday, as the National Highway Authority (NHA) apparently failed to regulate the traffic.

At a hearing on August 8, the Supreme Court had warned NHA Chairperson Jawad Rafique Malik that the NHA's officials will be booked in an FIR if any accident claimed a life on the highway.

The accident took place near Aliabad between a passenger van and a tractor trolley. The deceased were identified as 30-year-old Muhammad Aslam Chandio, a resident of Larkana district, and 24-year-old Muhammad Mithal Gadhi, a resident of Dadu district.

The injured were reportedly shifted to the hospital 45 to 60 minutes after the accident. The injured, who belong to Dadu, Larkana and Qambar Shahdadkot districts, were taken to Liaquat University Hospital's branches in Hyderabad and Jamshoro.

The accident's FIR has yet to be registered at the Khanote police station. The police said the tractor driver escaped the scene leaving behind his vehicle, which was impounded.
