Murad Ali Shah and his cabinet to take oath today
Qureshi started his political career in 1983 and won the first election in 1985 which was held on non-party basis. He became Multan District Council chairman in 1987 and later on remained Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) of Punjab for nine years from 1985 to 1993.
He served as provincial minister for planning and development from 1988 to 1990 and as minister for finance from 1990 to 1993. Later, he joined Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and was elected Member National Assembly (MNA) from Multan in 1993.
He again won as MNA in the 2002 general elections from Multan by defeating Makhdoom Javid Hashmi. In the 2008 general elections, he retained his seat for a third time as MNA from Multan. Qureshi was appointed foreign minister for the first time by PPP in 2008. He parted ways with PPP after 20 years and joined PTI in 2011.
National Assembly begins 'naya' tenure
On November 14, 1994, when Imran Khan initiated his fund raising campaign for Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital from Multan, Makhdoom Shah Mahmood, and the late Riaz Hussain Qureshi also stood by him. In the recently held general elections, Qureshi won as MNA from Multan and has been made part of the cabinet as the foreign minister. He is also a caretaker for the shrines of Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya (RA) and Hazrat Shah Rukn-i- Alam (RA).
