Says lawyers will never step back from providing justice

QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Noor Meskanzai said that a generation of lawyers was killed to disturb the justice system in Balochistan.

Addressing a condolence reference in Balochistan High Court on the 2nd anniversary of Civil Hospital blast, he said, “We will continue our mission of providing justice to the suppressed people of society."



“In 2016 terrorists had attempted to purge out Balochistan’s justice system by targeting lawyers community. The motive behind the attack was to pit segments of society against each other," he added.

The members of Balochistan High Court Bar Association, Balochistan Bar Association, judges, senior lawyers and members of civil society were present in the condolence reference.

Justice Noor Meskanzai said that the lawyers community has a democratic mindset and before the attack “we were about to hold bar elections.”

“Terrorists attacked us due to our belief in democracy and they wanted to create a space which couldn’t be filled for years. They targeted lawyers community to disturb the justice system,” he added.

He reiterated resolve to continue providing justice and said, “We want to tell the terrorists that we will continue carrying coffins of our martyrs but the doors of justice in the country would never be closed.”



Justice Noor Meskanzai said that the Punjab University and Balochistan University established a trustee fund for the families of martyred lawyers under the care of Balochistan High Court and welfare for the victim families will be continued.

Former Supreme Court Bar Association president Ali Ahmed Kurd said, “Today, the lawyer community has become the strongest force and we have taken oath of fighting against oppression,” adding “Despite all attacks and threats we have to pledge to carry on the mission of our martyred fellows, because providing justice to the suppressed people is our prime job.”
