Rahim Yar Khan prepares to celebrate Independence Day

Traffic police have been directed to check one-wheeling

RAHIM YAR KHAN: With August 14 around the corner, a series of preparations are being made across the district to celebrate Independence Day, Express News reported.

A large number of stalls have been set up all over the Rahim Yar Khan to sell national flags, buntings, badges and other decorative merchandise. The district government and educational institutions have planned a series of events in connection with Independence Day. One such event has been planned at Sheikh Khalifa Auditorium and it will be attended by the deputy commissioner and other senior government officials.

Flag hoisting ceremonies, seminars, independence walks, folksong performances, dramas on the struggle for freedom as well as photographic, painting, poetry and debate competitions have been planned.

On August 14, special prayers will be offered for the peace and prosperity of the country, while National flags will be hoisted on government and school buildings. Besides, different functions will be organised at schools to teach students about the historic background of the Pakistan Movement.

The district administration will also organise walks in which teachers, students and members of minority communities will participate.

As part of August 14 celebrations, shopkeepers in Rahim Yar Khan, especially at Shahi Road and Railway Chowk, have displayed green flags, banners and badges at their shops. The shelves of a large number of bookstores have been stacked with books on the history of Pakistan’s independence.

Many markets have started selling customised items for Independence Day. These include flags, badges, banners, stickers, buntings, portraits of Quaid-e-Azam and miniatures of prominent buildings such as Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore.

These shops have also started supplying flags, key chains inscribed with Pakistan flags, green badges and stickers to various cities in the district.

Meanwhile, the traffic police have devised a traffic management plan for Independence Day. Officials told Express News that police teams have been formed to check traffic violations, while special traffic squads would patrol different areas. In addition, teams have been formed to check one-wheeling and underage drivers.
