Government is implementing a programme to teach farmers managing dry land in most arid districts of the country. Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC) was implementing Sustainable Land Management Programme (SLMP) in 14 dry land districts of all four provinces, said Forests DIG Raja Omer.

He was speaking at a seminar held in connection with World Day to Combat Desertification which is observed globally  under the aegis of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). SLMP and Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University (PMAS AAUR) Rawalpindi jointly organised the seminar to commemorate the day.

PMAS AAUR Vice Chancellor Dr Sarwat Mirza on-the-ground efforts were necessary to combat desertification in the country. SLMP expert Nadeem Shaukat said: “The implementation of the programme will bring considerable financial benefits for the dry land communities through sustainable management of their resources.”
