Stray dog attacks

HYDERABAD: The number of stray dogs on the streets across the Hyderabad city has been increasing by the day. Passers-by are frequently attacked and bitten by these dogs. In Rahim Yar Khan too, more than 20 people, including children, were attacked and injured by stray dogs during the past week. Although some of these attacks have proven to be fatal, culling the dogs is no solution either. Stray animals are rounded up and killed en masse on a routine basis to curb their growing population around the city. Municipal laws allow authorities to either poison or shoot stray dogs with impunity — a practice which has been widely condemned as cruel and inhumane. Alternative mechanisms can be used to prevent dogs from attacking humans; we as a society should come up with alternative solutions to prevent these harmful attacks and should develop shelter facilities for stray animals.
