In a statement about the police performance in the on-going year, the capital police said they had arrested a total of 4,349 suspects including 866 absconders during 2018 so far, and had recovered stolen valuables worth more than Rs300 million.
“Owing to renewed efforts during the current year, police arrested 318 persons involved in 186 robberies and recovered looted valuables including gold and cash worth Rs32.3 million from them,” the statement said.
Police said investigation had been completed on 4,470 cases and investigation reports submitted to courts for trial over the past six months.
These include 258 burglary cases in which 403 suspects were arrested and stolen valuables worth Rs74.8 million were recovered.
Police said 85 suspected car thieves were traced and 108 vehicles were recovered from them.
Similarly, police said dozens of stolen motorbikes were also recovered from 72 suspects.
However, the police did not give the details of modes and registration number of the stolen cars and bikes during the current year so far.
Police also arrested 89 people for their alleged involvement in 100 cases of tampering vehicles and confiscated 97 tampered vehicles.
A nexus of automobile dealers and mechanics changes the chassis number of smuggled vehicles. The process is called chassis cut and paste.
During special crackdown against absconders, police arrested 406 proclaimed offenders and 462 court absconders.
The proclaimed offenders were wanted to police in cases of murder, attempted murder, robbery and mugging.
Police arrested 572 people for possessing illegal weapons and recovered 27 AK-47 assault rifles, 549 pistols and 4,744 bullets from them.
A total of 796 persons were held for having narcotics and liquor while 705 cases were registered against them besides recovery of 184.710 kilogramme hashish, 29.2 kilogramme heroin and 13,774 bottles of liquor.
Islamabad police launched crackdown against those involved in immoral activities [prostitution] and arrested 192 men and 228 women after registering 76 cases against them.
To ensure protection to the lives and property of the citizens, a total of 109 combing and search operations were conducted along with personnel of other law enforcement agencies and 324 suspects were held.
During the same period, the legal action was taken against 3,824 ‘professional alms-seekers’ while 11 blind murder cases were solved and 20 alleged killers were nabbed.
