Five faint after suffering heatstroke

RAHIM YAR KHAN: At least five people fainted after suffering from heatstroke in Rahim Yar Khan on Monday.

Officials at Sheikh Zayed Hospital told Express News that 35-year-old Hina Bibi, three-year-old Kaleemullah, 60-year-old Abdul Waheed, 30-year-old Adeel Ahmed and 35-year-old Muhammad Afzal fainted due to the heat.

They added the patients were suffering from fever, severe headaches and were vomiting. They said the victims were admitted to the health facility in critical condition.

However, treatment was being provided to the victims. The current heat wave has claimed many lives across Punjab. Earlier in Rahim Yar Khan, at least eight people lost their lives after suffering heatstroke. Most of the deaths occurred in Rahim Yar Khan and Gujranwala.

Meanwhile, Met officials said persistent dry weather in the plains of Punjab resulted in temperatures shooting up and the same weather pattern was likely to persist over the coming days.

Earlier, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) spokesperson Dr Wasim Khawaja told Express News that citizens, particularly those involved in outdoor activity, should take heed of necessary measures to prevent heat and sun stroke in the current climate.

He advised the public to carry and drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration while engaging in outdoor activities.

Health officials said people should avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun and take precautionary measures.
