Doctors advise people to avoid unhealthy food and drink

RAHIM YAR KHAN: At least two children died of gastroenteritis while several others remained hospitalised due to dysentery and vomiting in Rahim Yar Khan on Monday.

The gastro epidemic is spreading like wildfire as 21 patients, including six children, have been admitted to Sheikh Zayed Hospital of the city.

Officials told Express News that three-year old Alisha Bibi and seven-year-old Sufian Ali were admitted to the health facility after being infected by gastro. However, both children succumbed to the infection just hours after their admission despite all efforts to save them.

Meanwhille, other gastro patients admitted at the hospital included 11-year-old Faizan Ahmed, 10-year-old Urooj Fatima, 12-year-old Laiba Bibi, 30-year-old Adnan Ali, 42-year-old Jameela Bibi, 18-year-old Ahmed Raza and others.

Meanwhile, doctors at the hospital told Express News that the consumption of unhygienic food, drinks and contaminated water are major causes of such infectious diseases. They said the majority of patients fall victim to these ailments due to the extreme heat and the use of contaminated water.
