This is not the first reported incident of a police officer committing suicide. Experts say a plethora of reasons, such as the challenging nature of the job, domestic issues, poverty and the harsh attitude of other officers could be possible reasons behind such actions.

About a week ago, another police officer committed suicide by shooting himself in Hanjarwal. The deceased was identified as 23-year-old Umer Hayat. In November 2015, an assistant sub-inspector (AS) committed suicide while on duty. After the police conducted an investigation, it was revealed that he was suffering from psychiatric problems. The victim was identified as ASI Zubair, a resident of Faisalabad.

While in October 2015, another ASI identified as Shaukat Azeem committed suicide after shooting himself at Defence-A police station.

Investigations showed that the victim was appointed to the Defence police investigation wing. However, he was frustrated due to the attitude of his senior police officer. He committed suicide after he was reprimanded by the officer before his SP.
