SHC seeks report from jail authorities on declaring Rao Anwar's house as sub-jail

Hearing adjourned till July 2 due to lawyers' absence

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) sought a report from jail authorities till July 2 over the plea declaring former Malir SSP Rao Anwar's home as sub-jail in the Naqeebullah murder case.

Expressing its displeasure over the absence of Anwar's lawyer, Abid S Zuberi, the court directed him appear in court on July 2.



While hearing the plea against the decision to declare on Friday, the SHC bench voiced its disapproval over the decision, adding that it was well aware why Anwar was being given protocol. It also questioned under what law has Anwar been kept in his home.

The public prosecutor told the court that Anwar was facing threats from banned organisations.

The court inquired whether Anwar had submitted an application to any authority regarding the threats to his life.

Anwar didn't go to jail even once. How can there be a threat, don't teach us, the court remarked, adding that Anwar should be shifted to jail or else the notification terming his home as a sub-jail will be annulled.

The court questioned if any culprit till now had received protocol or facilities being given to Anwar.



 

The hearing was adjourned till July 2

Meanwhile, holding placards and chanting slogans, tribal leaders and Naqeebullah's family staged a protest outside the court against Anwar.
