Former premier Nawaz Sharif said that Begum Kulsoom Nawaz's condition has slightly improved, but she still remains unconscious and in critical condition.

Speaking to the BBC, Nawaz wished he had visited Begum Kulsoom before Thursday [before he arrived in London] so he could have met her when she was still conscious. Nawaz's son Hussain Nawaz also spoke to BBC and said that along with his father, he was also present inside Begum Kulsoom's room at the Harley Street clinic.

Hussain further told BBC Urdu that his mother's condition was comparatively better than last week. When asked how his father was handling the situation, he passed the phone to Nawaz. During the five to eight minutes conversation, Nawaz requested prayers for the deteriorating health of Begum Kulsoom.

BBC Urdu further stated that Nawaz's tone was gravely serious bordering with sadness. He expressed genuinely positive remarks about Pakistan and the nation before concluding the conversation.

On June 14, Nawaz and daughter Maryam left for London after being granted a brief exemption from the ongoing corruption trial involving members of the Sharif family.

While the father and daughter were en route to the British capital, Begum Kulsoom suffered a cardiac arrest and was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and placed on a ventilator.

UZI | 5 years ago | Reply My prayers go out to Begum Kulsoom and I hope her recovery is speedy. However, I do have a question for Sharifs: why do you and your family members seek healthcare from abroad if you have transformed the healthcare delivery in Punjab? This reflects a lack of trust on your own health systems, but you lead the masses to believe the exact opposite.
