K-P transfers over 150 top officials

Provincial attorney general also replaced

PESHAWAR: As the top bureaucracy of the province was shuffled after a green light from the top poll body, the law ministry also announced the appointment of a new advocate general in the province.

The government shuffled 20 secretaries and chairmen of various departments along with 38 deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, and directors; 29 superintendents and deputy superintendents of police and 90 other senior government officials.



The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Law Ministry also notified that it had removed Advocate General (AG) Abdul Latif Yousafzai with immediate effect.

The summary sent to the caretaker chief minister said that law officers of the AG office have already submitted their resignations to the provincial law department.

The ministry also submitted a list of three lawyers to the caretaker chief minister for selecting the next AG of the province.



The list includes senior lawyers who practice at the Supreme Court of Pakistan such as Abdul Samad Khan, Naveed Akhtar, and Ijaz Muhammad.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan act 2017, the caretaker government can only make appointments for an interim period. Hence, the law department has proposed that any new AG will be appointed for a period of six months.

Clause 3 of Article 140 of the Constitution provides that the AG will be appointed by the governor of each province. It further provides that successful candidate will have to be qualified to be a judge of the high court.
