Police arrest 39 street criminals

Mobile phones, looted items worth Rs61,500 recovered

Islamabad. The capital police have arrested 39 people who were allegedly involved in street crimes and recovered stolen valuables worth Rs1.5 million, gold ornaments, laptops, mobile phones and looted cash from them.

Police said that they had launched an aggressive campaign against street criminals in the capital, and all those with a history of street crime were being investigated. In this regard, several suspects have been detained.

City Circle Police said that they had arrested two people and recovered mobile phones and looted items worth Rs61,500.

Saddar Circle police claimed to have arrested seven suspects and recovered mobile phones and cash worth Rs93,000. Similarly, Industrial area police nabbed 30 suspects and recovered stolen mobile phones and cash worth Rs1.36 million from them besides jewellery and other valuables.

Islamabad SSP Najeebur Rehman Bugvi has directed all Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) and Station House Officers (SHOs) to ensure effective patrolling in their jurisdictions and vigilance against the suspects.

"It is our prime responsibility to ensure protection to the lives and property of the citizens. Those police officials involved in dereliction of duties or adopting sluggish attitude would not be spared and strict disciplinary action would be taken against them," the SSP was quoted in a statement issued by his office.
