PEPCO shuts down six grid stations, cut power to Lahore airport

LAHORE: PEPCO shut down six grid stations in Lahore after the energy shortfall reached 6000megawatt. Supply to Allama Iqbal International airport was also cut initially.

Civil Aviation Authorities at the Allama Iqbal International Airport said that the schedule of flights had not been disturbed as all essential operations had been shifted on to the generators.

They said that the airport is fed via two stations. Initially one of the stations had been shutdown, soon followed by the second station. However the one of the stations had been brought back online.

Meanwhile, the load shedding duration in other parts of the city had increased by 10 to 12 hours. These outages were not part of the regular power shutdown schedule issued by PEPCO.

The outages have been attributed to shortage of furnace oil for power generation units.
