Water shortage and heat spells

Letter May 04, 2018
No one so far has even devised any plans to counter any emergencies that may rise during the month of Ramazan

LAHORE: The intensity of the heat in Pakistan has been increasing, year after year along with the decrease in the water levels in the country. Warning signs are being announced time and again by environmentalists, experts and the Met office but not much is being done at the policy level.

Though a water policy has recently been announced, politicians and their cronies leading the provincial governments are busy pulling one another down than working on the implementation of the policy. No one so far has even devised any plans to counter any emergencies that may rise during the month of Ramazan owing to the increase in temperatures coupled with water shortage.

Our leadership seem unperturbed by the looming water and environmental threat. How will Pakistan cope in the coming years with a constantly decreasing water level, is any one’s guess.
