LAHORE: The Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (Prgmea), in its budget proposals for 2018-19, has called for ensuring the ease of doing business, lowering the cost of production, addressing the liquidity crunch through early tax refunds, equal energy tariffs across the country and an easy import policy for industrial raw material. This way, it said, industrialisation could be promoted and exports would be enhanced. Prgmea Senior Vice Chairperson Sheikh Luqman Amin observed that Pakistan’s global ranking in doing business was 147th out of around 190 countries mainly due to bureaucratic hurdles as more than 20 different government departments, which should have facilitated the manufacturers, were discouraging exporters. He said all stuck tax refund claims of exporters including those under the Drawback of Local Taxes and Levies (DLTL), customs rebate, sales tax rebate, etc should be released as the liquidity crunch was a major stumbling block in the way of improving exports.
