SC orders police to nab journalist killing suspect in 10 days

Chief Justice Saqib Nisar had earlier taken suo motu notice of Zeeshan Butt's murder

LAHORE: The Supreme Court (SC) on Saturday granted police 10 more days to nab the chief suspect wanted in connection with the killing of journalist Zeeshan Butt in Sumbrial.

A two-member bench hearing the suo motu case in the SC's Lahore Registry ordered police to nab Imran alias Mani in 10 days. Punjab IG Arif Nawaz presented a progress report before the court. Suspects Saqlain Ali, Shahid and Shahid Mehmood have been arrested so far, he told the court. "The prime suspect Imran is still absconding," he said.

At this, the CJP Saqib Nisar questioned how long  police would take to nab him. The IG requested for 10 more days on this account. "Nab Imran and present a report," CJP Nisar told the Punjab Police top boss.

Chief Justice Of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar had earlier taken suo motu notice of the killing in Sambrial, Sialkot. Last week, the IG informed the court that those involved in the murder of journalist were affiliated with the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).The chief justice also quizzed Nawaz on the whereabouts of the suspects and asked who provided the suspects with support.

The IG said the suspects had acted alone, a remark seemingly dismissed by the top judge. During the hearing, the chief justice gave Nawaz four days to nab the suspects.
