Punjab passes resolution banning dance parties at education institutes

'This is against eastern culture, values and is a violation of Pakistan's ideology'

LAHORE: A resolution was passed in the Punjab Assembly on Wednesday banning dance parties at education institutes across the province

The resolution was passed unanimously against "DJ Nights" in education institutes. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's (PML-N) Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Sheikh Aijaz Ahmed presented the resolution.

The resolution said that western culture is being promoted at educational institutions; wayward tendencies are taking place in students. Punjab assembly unanimously passed the resolution.

"This house believes that DJ nights are organised at the province's educational institutions which are a conspiracy of promoting Western culture among the youth," the resolution said.

Punjab bans dancing at school events

"This is against the eastern culture, values and is a violation of Pakistan's ideology. Thereby, the house believes that ban should be imposed on this activity so that youth can be rescued from immorality," it further stated. "Silence of the educational institution authorities is also questionable."

On Monday, the Punjab government banned dancing at various school events. According to details, the Punjab government has imposed this ban throughout the province, binding both government and private educational institutions in the province, to observe the ban.

“During special occasions, such as competitions, parents day, teachers day and even orations there was a custom of students dancing on Pakistani and Indian songs, read a notification, adding that according to government rules, dancing has been banned regardless of the occasion.
