Maryam accuses judges of forming political party against Sharif

Says Nawaz Sharif is being awarded punishments for the crimes he didn't commit

What seems like asking for trouble, Maryam Nawaz took her diatribe against the judiciary to a next level on Thursday, accusing five judges of the Supreme Court of forming a political front (party) against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

Addressing a social media convention in Faisalabad, the daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif said the five-member bench, which disqualified her father in the Panama Papers case, had formed a political party and brought “embracement to the judiciary”.

She said how could the people respect the judiciary when decisions are based on “injustice and vengeance” and when “people raise their concern over these decisions they are slammed with” contempt of court.



“Weak decisions based on injustice cannot be defended on the pretext of contempt of court.  Respect for judiciary is [earned] through its decisions on merit [and] justice,” she said. “Judiciary cannot get itself respected by instilling fear in hearts of the people.”

Maryam Nawaz was also angry at the dual-nationality cases against some newly-elected senators. “Despite all the ordeal of taking away party president, taking away party emblem and taking away party cover [tickets] our senator won, they [judges] remembered of dual nationality,” she said.

“The decision of dual nationality case will be announced a day after chairman Senate’s election, isn’t it [tantamount to] rigging,” she asked.  “Why did they forget to take suo moto notice against horse-trading in the Senate [election] against the PML-N.”

She insisted that no allegation of corruption could be proved against Sharif.  “Nawaz Sharif is the first in the country, who has not been found guilty but punished not once but twice -- by disqualifying him from premiership and then taking away his party presidency.”

After doing all that, she continued: “Our Baluchistan government was toppled, our party’s [election] symbol was taken away from our candidate in the by-elections and our party was barred from contesting in the Senate elections”.

She also fired a broadside against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan. “Imran Khan has failed,” she said. “Now it is time to be held accountable in the court of the people.”
