They also demanded better service structure and abolition of taxes imposed on those in lower pay scales.
The protest was organised by an alliance of unions and associations led by the Railway workers Union (CBA-Workshop) and the Diploma-Holders’ Association. The protest also was attended by members of the People’s Solidarity Forum and the Progressive Students Collective.
They announced a plan to intensify pressure on the railways administration. Beginning March 12, a week of protest would be initiated with daily protests being held in each workshop establishment.
