LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senator elect Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar has said the general elections of 2018 belong to the PTI. Therefore, the party will have to gear up by mobilising its resources and workers.
He was speaking at a reception on Wednesday organised to celebrate his win in recent Senate elections.
Instead of celebrating their win in Senate elections, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is in mourning the loss of his seat, he said. “It is not difficult to defeat the PML-N in elections because no one is happy with the rulers. The PTI is all set to post-mortem the lion (PML-N election symbol) in 2018 general elections.”
Sarwar said that he was a proud Pakistani national and would continue to hold a green passport. “I surrendered the United Kingdom’s citizenship in 2013.”
Speaking on the occasion, PTI Central Punjab President Abdul Aleem Khan said Sarwar’s win has surprised rulers. The ruling party has constituted an inquiry commission at Sharifs’ residence to figure out who actually gave the vote to the PTI candidate.
Khan pointed out that except deposed premier Nawaz Sharif’s constituency massive reshuffle was done in all constituencies. “The Sharifs believe that by setting up constituencies of their choice they will win the upcoming general election but they are mistaken.”
Punjab Assembly opposition leader Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed highlighted that earlier when he suggested Sarwar to contest Senate elections, he (Sarwar) was a bit reluctant. The ruling party has tried its level best to keep Sarwar out of the upper house, he added. “All members of the PTI were committed to sending him to the Senate and they secured a seat for Sarwar.”
