Say repeated reminders failed to move CM

PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) on Wednesday asked the Peshawar High Court to disqualify Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak as a member of assembly because he had failed to fulfil a promise he had made to the lawyers.
Given that he had failed to honour his promise, the lawyers contended that Khattak no longer fulfilled the criteria laid down in Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution and was thus liable to be disqualified.
“If he is not fulfilling his commitments, which is on record, he has no right to remain as a member of the provincial assembly and fails to fulfil the criteria laid down in Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution,” read the petition filed by the PHCBA.
Filed by PHCBA Secretary Rahmanullah, they further added that Khattak does not fulfil the eligibility criteria under Article 113 of the Constitution. In March 2016, the chief minister had announced a special grant of Rs10 million for the PHCBA in a public event. However, the government has yet to release the money, leaving lawyers frustrated.
