ISLAMABAD:

A shareholder of Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), the largest oil and gas explorer, has served a legal notice on the company’s board chairman, alleging illegal and unjust shortlisting of candidates for appointment of executive directors.

OGDCL’s Human Resource Committee had recommended six names for the posts of executive directors for consideration in the board meeting on April 27. However, the board did not take up the issue due to protest by some internal candidates who said they had been ignored in the shortlisting process.

Shareholder Dawood Ahmed, through Qamar Law Associates, has said he has the liberty to approach the Supreme Court chief justice and will also exercise other options under the law if undue favour is given to the candidates.

Earlier, OGDCL had invited applications for the appointment of executive directors for exploration, security and production on November 28, 2010. The complainant has alleged that the shortlisted candidates do not meet the laid-down criteria.

In the notice, example of a shortlisted candidate has been quoted who is already working in OGDCL and has applied for the post of executive director. According to the shareholder, the candidate does not meet the condition of six years’ experience at a senior management position in plant and production operation in the oil and gas or petrochemical industry. He is also accused of being involved in omission and commission.

In the advertisement, a contract for three years had been offered to the applicants. However, some shortlisted candidates cannot get three-year contracts because they will cross the age of 60 years during this period, the notice said.

When contacted, OGDCL Managing Director Asif Sindho said no decision had yet been taken on the appointment of executive directors and only the Human Resource Committee had shortlisted three to four candidates for one slot. “The board will interview the shortlisted candidates and transparency will be ensured in the whole process,” he added.
