Special persons in the active workforce

The Punjab government has increased the job quota for differently-abled people from two to three per cent

LAHORE: It is shocking that according to the 1998 census, the total differently-abled population in the country was counted to be at 2.38%, while the same constituted for only 0.48% of the population in the census of 2017, as reported in the media.

Moreover, while the aforementioned figures are far from reality, the employment quota for provinces reflects a further disappointing picture. However, the Punjab government has increased the job quota for differently-abled people from two to three per cent and similar demands have been put forward from the K-P province. To make differently-abled people an active workforce in the country and contributors to economic growth, the federal government must increase available jobs for them in all the provinces.
