Unqualified staff: PHC seals five maternity homes

Over 70% of the complaints investigated by the commission pertained to obstetrics and gynaecology

LAHORE: The Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) sealed on Saturday five maternity homes because neither they were registered with the commission nor had they qualified staff. The commission served notices on 24 maternity homes and challaned two facilities. According to the spokesman, during the last two days, teams of the PHC carried out inspections at 90 maternity homes in different parts of the city. The sealed facilities included Maryam Maternity Home at Garhi Shahu, Al-Khair Medical and Ultrasound Centre at Gulberg, Rahat Medical and Gynae Centre and Ali Medical and Gynae Centre at Thokar Niaz Beg and Maryum Clinic on Temple Road. He said that over 70% of the complaints investigated by the commission pertained to obstetrics and gynaecology, and subsequent investigations revealed that unqualified medical practitioners and quacks were running these centres.
