Internal accountability: NAB chief directs evaluation, performance review of 2017

Officials will be granted ample opportunity to clarify their position on charges of corruption

ISLAMABAD: NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has directed NAB’s Inspection and Monitoring Team to conduct annual evaluation and performance review of  NAB Headquarters and all regional bureaus of NAB under comprehensive grading system on the basis of their performance of last year 2017 during the months of January and February, 2018 and submit report in March 2018.

The deficiencies of NAB Headquarters and all the regional bureaus under comprehensive grading system would not only be pointed out but also necessary action will also be taken against inefficient and corrupt officials on the basis of comprehensive grading system and Internal Accountability Mechanism.

The officials would be granted ample opportunity to clarify their position or charges leveled against them about inefficiency, corruption and corrupt practices.

Meanwhile, in Peshawar K-P NAB  Director General Brig (retd) Farooq Naser Awan has said NAB K-P will provide relief to the general public through Accountability Regime in the light of the vision of NAB Chairman NAB Justice Javed Iqbal for the prosperity of people of this province.

He was addressing the directors conference held at the office of NAB K-P on Tuesday in which the performance of NAB K-P for the year 2017 was reviewed.

During the year 2017, NAB K-P successfully pursued cases of cheating public at large, cases related to over billing and utilisation of cess funds cases for relief and facilitation of general public and returned looted money to the National Exchequer.

The Bureau conducted inquiries and investigations of cases worth over  Rs36.122 billion and during year 2017 K-P Bureau recovered Rs672 million in direct and indirect recoveries.

The director general was apprised that the bureau received a total of 3,624 complaints during the calendar year 2017 and successfully disposed off all the complaints. After the scrutiny, the bureau carried out complaint verification (preliminary inquiry) in 252 complaints. On the basis of findings in verification, 112 inquiries and 42 investigations were initiated.

The bureau has successfully filed a total of 34 references in accountability courts while remaining cases were disposed off through plea bargains. Inquiries and investigations of cases worth more than Rs36.122 billion were conducted. A total of Rs672 million was recovered by the bureau, out of which Rs148.9 million was directly recovered and an amount of Rs524 million was indirectly recovered in Sugarcane Cess Case and PESCO over billing case.

At the end K-P DG said that NAB chairman since assuming his charge, has time and again vowed and stressed that NAB, through effective accountability mechanism, will ensure  transparency and improvement  in service delivery so that relief is provided to the general public.
