PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Auqaf, Hajj, Religious and Minority Affairs Department has announced 300 merit-based scholarships for members of the minority community who are pursuing their studies at the intermediate, graduate and post-graduate level.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Minister for Zakat, Ushar, Auqaf, Hajj, Religious and Minority Affairs Habibur Rehman told The Express Tribune that the scholarships will be provided to the talented and brilliant students of the minority community across the province. He added that the incumbent government wants to provide equal educational opportunities to all citizens of the province and they had allocated a large amount of money for this.
“These scholarships not only fulfil their education requirements but they can also help them in fulfilling their daily routine needs,” Rehman said, adding that most of the people hailing from the minority community are from poor families and cannot afford higher education expenses.
The minister shared that a scholarship of Rs15,000 per month will be provided to students of intermediate, Rs20,000 to graduate students and Rs25,000 to post-graduate students. Similarly, Rs40,000 will be provided to medicine, engineering and PhD students.
The scholarships will be provided in science, arts, economics, for intermediate; diplomas for associate engineering and computer science or information technology or equivalent certifications from reputed and recognised institutions. Similarly, for graduate and post-graduate students, scholarships will be provided in science, art, economics, law, business, computer science, information technology and technical education subjects from reputed and recognised institutions.
For professional and graduate or post-graduate courses in medicine, dentistry, engineering or a PhD in any discipline, the course must be undertaken at a Higher Education Commission-recognised institution. There are 120 seats for intermediate students, 120 for graduate, 40 for postgraduate and 20 for PhDs.
