KARACHI:

Pakistan Rangers detained over 100 suspects during separate raids in Baldia and Landhi towns on Friday. Information was received from intelligence agencies about the presence of suspected terrorists, said the Sindh Rangers spokesman.

Meanwhile, officials claimed that the operation was launched to arrest the culprits involved in the attack on the navy buses. At least 10 people had lost their lives in three separate attacks on navy buses in Defence, Baldia and Karsaz over two days.

The overnight search operation in Baldia, which included areas of Mastana Chowk, Ittehad Town, Muhammad Khan Colony and Afridi Chowk, started around 3 am and continued till 10 am.

The area was cordoned off. Dozens of police vans and armoured personnel carriers carrying over 250 Rangers jawans and police officials took part in the operation.

Over 100 suspects were detained during the door-to-door search operation, officials said. They were taken to different wings and most of them were released after interrogations.

Similarly, a search operation was also carried out in Landhi. Many suspects were taken into custody and weapons were also seized from them. But the Sindh Rangers spokesman told The Express Tribune that most of those caught were later released. “Only 11 suspects from Baldia and six from Landhi are still detained,” he said.

Residents of these areas condemned the search operation and also staged a protest. They said the law enforcers blindfolded innocent residents, tied their hands behind their backs and took them to an unknown place.

During the operation, all commercial and social activities came to a halt.
