Newlyweds Virat Kohli, Anushka Sharma meet Indian PM

Modi also received an invite to the couple's wedding reception

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday met newly-married Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli and his Bollywood actor wife Anushka Sharma and congratulated the couple.

Modi received an invite to the couple's wedding reception. It is unclear if PM Modi will actually attend.



Along with the couple, Kohli's brother Vikas was also present during the meet.

PM Modi was present at the reception of former India spinner Harbhajan Singh’s wedding with actor Geeta Basra in Dehli in November 2015.

Virat and Anushka, who tied the knot at a picturesque location in Italy on December 11, will host two receptions - in New Delhi on December 21 and in Mumbai on December 26.



Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli married in Italy last week, after having managed to (almost) keep the wedding secret for a year.

Anushka and her family were photographed flying out of Mumbai days before the wedding. They were headed to Italy where a heritage resort in Tuscany had been booked for the nuptials. Pre-wedding ceremonies included a mehendi and haldi. No celebrities were invited.



The newlyweds made the wedding announcement on their Twitter accounts with an identical message, "Today we have promised each other to be bound in love forever. We are truly blessed to share the news with you. This beautiful day will be made more special with the love and support of our family of fans & well wishers. Thank you for being such an important part of our journey."
