ISLAMABAD: The movement for the restoration of the caliphate and the Ottoman Empire at the end of the first World War was perhaps the last great rise of the Muslim world.

The event had been organised by the Turkish Language department at the varsity as part of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Pakistan.

Prof Ozcan elaborated on the struggle in sub-continent for the Ottoman Empire.

In this regard, he pointed in particular to the efforts of Maulana Shibli Nomani, Abul Kalam Azad and others who played a key role to raise support for the Ottoman Empire.

“Pakistan-Turk relations are old and deep,” he said. He also briefed about the different incidents which took place during that period and that period was the time of the rise of Muslims.

Turkish Ambassador Sadik Babur Girgin hailed Pakistanis as a great nation, noting that the youth needs to have faith in themselves.

He added that Pakistan-Turkey diplomatic relations are very deep and are getting stronger every day. He stressed on the need for unity amongst the Muslim Ummah and urged the youth to play its due role.

At the end, NUML Rector Major-General (retired) Ziauddin Najam said that Turkey has a rich history and tradition. He lauded the services of outgoing ambassador Girgin for strengthening Pak-Turk relations.
