Chinese authorities have closed a school, which claimed it taught “traditional virtues” but actually taught women to be obedient and subordinate to men. According to the education bureau, the institute violated socialist core values.

A viral video posted by news website Pear Video shows teachers at the Fushan School of Traditional Culture telling women not to fight back when being beaten and speaking out against gender equality.

In recent years, the number of such institutions has increased in China.

The video also shows teachers telling women not to have a career but “just stay at the bottom level”.

Women are also told to obey their fathers, husbands and sons without question. Other "advice" from the controversial institution, which opened in 2011, included never arguing when scolded and never asking for a divorce.

Furthermore, the teachers are seen warning that if a woman has sex with more than three men, the semen becomes poisonous and might kill her.

"Whatever your husband asks, your reply should be: 'Yes. Right away'" one lecturer tells her students.

The Global Times newspaper reports that some employees of the institute are protesting against its closure. They claim that the controversial video misrepresents their work to promote traditional culture.

The local education bureau in Fushun said "the institute's teachings went against social morality and must be closed immediately".

Authorities are also checking other institutions accused of similar problems .

"We must stop any phenomenon that violates the socialist core value," the statement says.
