‘Sports culture fading away in society’

Speakers stress need to promote physical activities among youth

FAISALABAD: The sports culture and physical activities are declining in society that will lead to increasing ailments among the people. Physical activities are vital to stay mentally fit and for acquiring knowledge.

This was said by University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Vice-Chancellor Muhammad Iqbal Zafar. He was addressing an opening session of four-day sports gala arranged by Directorate of Sports, UAF in collaboration with Interloop on Monday. The sports gala comprises football, cricket and hockey competitions.

The UAF, National Textile University, Government College University Faisalabad, Postgraduate College Samnabad, Municipal Degree College, Divisional Public College Faisalabad and other educational institutes took part in the gala.

On the occasion, the vice-chancellor said that a healthy body is vital for a sound mind. He called for developing sportsman spirit in the youth to prepare them for facing the odds in life.

He expressed concern on excessive use of internet mobile phones that was preventing students to play in the grounds. He maintained that the future of the country was in the hands of youth. “If they are skilled and physically fit, the country will move to new heights of progress and prosperity,” he pointed out.

Nooh breaks national record

Iqbal Zafar said that UAF was making all-out efforts to promote sports culture.

Sports Director Muhammad Ashfaq said, “There is a need to promote sports activities among the youth as this trend is declining.”

He said that the university was taking tangible steps to promote healthy activities among the youth.  He said that keeping in view increasing enrolment at the campus, a new state-of-the-art sports complex was being established.
